Hill Country Build on Your Lot — Done Right From the Start

Building on your own land in the Texas Hill Country comes with a unique set of considerations — rocky terrain, varied utility access, county-specific permitting, and site conditions that can change significantly from one tract to the next. Quality Hill Country Homes brings three decades of on-the-ground experience to every lot we build on — assessing what your land needs, planning around its specific characteristics, and managing the entire build with hands-on oversight so nothing gets missed.

Whether you’re building a custom home, a barndominium, or a casita, the process starts the same way: with a thorough look at your land and an honest conversation about what’s possible, what it will take, and what it will cost.

Build on Your Lot Hill Country FAQs

Yes. This is exactly what we do. Quality Hill Country Homes builds on client-owned land throughout the Texas Hill Country — raw acreage, finished lots, rural tracts, and everything in between. If you own land and want to build on it, we’re the team to call.

We build fully custom homes, barndominiums, and casitas on client-owned land. The right structure depends on your property, your lifestyle, and your goals — and we’ll help you work through those decisions early so your build starts with a clear direction.

The first step is a site evaluation. Before any plans are drawn or decisions are made, we assess your property — soil composition, utility access, drainage, topography, and any county-specific requirements that will affect the build. That gives both of us a clear, honest picture of what’s involved before you commit to anything.

Timeline depends on the structure type, lot conditions, finish level, and county permitting speed. Custom home builds typically run 9–15 months; barndominiums generally run 6–12 months. Raw land builds may add 4–8 weeks to the front end for site preparation. We’ll give you a realistic project timeline after the initial site evaluation.

Yes, and we do it regularly. Raw land builds require more upfront site work — clearing, grading, utility coordination, access road development — but we manage all of that as part of the process. There’s no need to coordinate separate contractors for site prep; we handle it under one contract.

A few things matter more out here than in other parts of Texas: limestone bedrock affects foundation approach, utility access varies widely between rural tracts, flood zone considerations apply in certain low-lying areas, and each county has its own permitting process and timeline. We walk every client through these factors during the site evaluation so nothing surprises you mid-build.

We build throughout the Hill Country, with the most active work in Comal, Kendall, and Hays counties — covering communities including Spring Branch, Canyon Lake, New Braunfels, Boerne, Wimberley, and San Marcos. If your property is in an adjacent county, reach out and we’ll let you know directly whether it falls within our service area.

Yes. We manage the full permitting process regardless of which Hill Country county your property is in. Permitting requirements, timelines, and fees vary by county — and our team is familiar with the process across all of our active service areas.
